OUT OF THE TRUNK OF MEMORIES
In my trunk of childhood memories, there are many things: toys, books, papers, photographs, clothes, dolls, and more. During the past few years, my photography has explored my past, and oddly through this investigation, also my present state of mind. What started out as a playful exploration of the use of my archive and some of its contents - my dolls in particular - has emerged as metaphors for situational experiences, moments in our lives that we either laugh at, learn from, or cringe at. Often there is a fine line between humor and darkness depending on the viewer’s experiences and insights and imagination. I find myself enthralled, wanting to know more about these characters who are sometimes without identity, but not without personality and curiosity. There is a story unfolding here and with each staged frame, I find that I am both casting a spell and dispelling a myth. Or perhaps creating one. There’s no telling what will happen next and that excites me.
